Documentary Family Photography in London
A personal window into a family’s life
I really enjoy capturing documentary or natural images of families. In a similar vein to my wedding work, I like natural images. Images that tell the real story. A moment frozen in time. I was lucky that Maria, a fellow photographer, let me capture her family for a day. The aim was to capture their day as naturally as possible. To create images of those “natural” moments that will be forgotten so quickly as children grow up so fast. Images that will remind parents of how their children looked like, what they used to do and enjoy.
A normal day is very difficult to plan as of course, as natural as I am in my approach, families know that a photographer is coming. What I ask parents is just to do things that they often do. If they normally spend time at a coffee shop, or doing arts and crafts or at the park, that is fine as it reflect their lifestyle.
The day started with me capturing a few images at the family home before heading out to the park. I like to great a mix of action images, some nice natural portraits and some more complex images. The rest of the day was spent mainly inside the house and in the garden doing a variety of activities. From collection rhubarb from the garden, to making a cake, to building Lego, playing chess, etc…
It was a fun day and below are some of my favourite images. Please have a look and enjoy!
