As a wedding photographer, I always like to try different things. I am busy photographer so I generally do not get a chance to work with other photographers. However, last year, my good friend Jamie Dunn was looking for someone to help him with one his weddings. As I happened to be free on the date, I offered to second shoot for him. It was a strange experience, as I am generally the lead in all my weddings. I have the relationship with the client also so I know a lot more about the wedding day itself. However, the advantages of second shooting were for me to for once work in a different way than I normally do. An opportunity to try something different. To look at different angles as I don’t have the pressure of the main shooter to deliver some “expected” images. And it is also great to see how a colleague works and perhaps learn something from them too!

My day started documenting the groom getting ready at a countryside pub not too far away from the church. It was a gorgeous sunny day and there were a few nerves in the morning, but all to be expected in such an important day. Everyone looked very elegant and it was a pleasant morning with the ushers and groom’s sipping coffee and then later a G&T before going to the church. On arrival, the church looked amazing and everyone was waiting for the bride to arrive and the ceremony to get underway.

An entrance in style

The bride arrived only a few minutes late. she arrived in a gorgeous horse carriage. She looked amazing as did her bridesmaids. There some signs of nervousness but it was mainly excitement and anticipation. The service was beautiful and it included a couple of readings. There were a few tears (of joy) and there were some lovely moments. After the service, the guests had lined up for a confetti shot. After the service, the bride and groom left for portraits while I followed the guests to the drinks reception and West Wycombe Park. It is truly a gorgeous setting, especially in a nice summer day. The views over the lake are impressive. Guests were entertained by a live acoustic band. They also enjoyed canapés of course and drinks.

The bride and groom made another entrance on the horse and carriage (and why not it looked great) and then they joined their guests to mingle until the call for dinner was made. I stayed to cover only the father of the bride’s speech before heading home and leaving the main photographer to finish documenting the day.

A lovely afternoon

I spent a gorgeous morning and afternoon documenting this wedding alongside my good friend Jamie. It was great for me to work in a slightly different role and try a d few different things. West Wycombe Park is a stunning venue

West Wycombe Park is a gorgeous location for a day out, let alone for a wedding! It has been in home to the Dashwood family for over 3 centuries. It is set in a lovely landscape park , where you can stroll around for hours and find hidden temples. The park also boasts a man made lake, which creates stunning views, specially at sunset. It is recommended to pay a visit to this fabulous National Trust venue in Buckinghamshire if you are travelling in the area. The House in itself (not featured in this wedding) is fantastic and so are the grounds. West Wycombe village is asl very pretty to visit.

Wedding Photography at this unique venue

As mentioned above, I was helping a good friend for this wedding. As such, I did focus more on photographing guests while my colleague was taking portraits of the bride and groom around some of the beautiful temples on the estate. The bride and groom opted for a marquee reception just by the lake which provided unique views to their guests. There was a great fete/arty vibe during the drinks reception. Guests were outside enjoying the live acoustic band, children were eating and running around and everyone was very relaxed. The couple chose an un-posed style of photography which is the way I like to capture weddings. I would love to hear from you via my contact page. I love the variety that weddings bring! There always different people, different venues, different themes and concepts! Charlie and Alex’s wedding was very much a village affair! Everything was within walking distance. It was a couple of minutes from the bride’s parents home to the church and  then the same distance back to the Village Hall. The reception actually took place in the field behind the Village hall. A massive and beautiful Teepee (or Tipi) had been erected. It was beautifully decorated. The weather was a bit temperamental on the day! Some nice sunshine as the bride walked to the church and lots of rain on the way back! Nevertheless, the spirits were high and nobody seemed to mind it!

I started the day at the church documenting the arrival of guests before heading to catch the bride and her family as they walked to the church. It was a really jovial atmosphere. Everyone was friendly, the bridesmaids were fun and full of energy and there was a great vibe. The ceremony was in beautiful rural church with a lovely vicar. He was friendly and amenable to photography which is always a bonus. A splendid choir sang and especially a beautiful song (cannot remember the name) as the bride walked down the aisle. After the I Do’s, the first kiss and the signing of the register it was time to talk to the reception.  By this time, it was raining quite consistently. However everyone enjoyed the short walk and arriving to the Teepee!

A gorgeous afternoon with Mariachis, speeches and dancing!

At the Teepee were waiting drinks, canapés and a Mariachi band! The Teepee was great fun and guests were having fun with everything that was going on! Luckily the rain eased off for a bit and guests were able to go outside for a bit. We also used this break in the weather to capture a few family photos and portraits before  the wedding breakfast. The meal was lovely and it was followed by speeches. They were heartfelt and funny. The first dance followed shortly after.

I really enjoy it when I stay to capture the evening shenanigans. There was lots of dancing, marshmallow eating and generally people having fun! I was incredibly well looked after by Charlie and Alex and all their guests. It was true pleasure to be there and document their wedding day. I clearly remember meeting Sophie and Michael at my home studio. It was well over 18 months ago. They came across as a happy and relaxed couple. They were having their wedding in Amersham. I was looking forward to being the Kings Chapel wedding photographer and document their wedding day. I arrived early enough to capture a few shots of the bride, family and bridesmaids getting ready. There was lots going on! Laughter, excitement, noise, as a wedding morning should be. Everyone was incredibly friendly and relaxed.  The venue was literally next door and it made it easy for me to walk back and forth. The groom also looked calm when I met him. The Kings Chapel looked beautiful and a lovely place to get married at. When the bridal preparations where over, the bride and her dad walked to the venue. Everyone was ready and waiting, including their cute dog!

The ceremony was fairly simple yet special, including some readings. After the ceremony, guests were able to have drinks outside. It was a lovely afternoon (despite 5 minutes of light rain).  Guests enjoyed ice cream, drinks and canapes! All to the sound of a sax player. It was really nice seeing everyone having fun and enjoying themselves!

An afternoon to remember – meaningful speeches

The afternoon followed with the wedding breakfast and then the speeches. As a parent and perhaps a sensitive person, I really enjoy the speeches. I like to hear about the bride and groom. Meaningful and honest speeches are precious. I have been lucky to witness many speeches and it is easy for me to tell the one’s that come from the heart. All the speeches had a mix of humour and powerful moments and memories. After the speeches, guests had some time to relax before the cutting of the cake and the first dance. I left just shortly after the first dance.

I was very excited to work at the famous Pinewood Studios and being the Heatherden Hall wedding photographer for the wedding of Gaby and Phil. Heatherden Hall is a great wedding venue. It is also known for having featured in many high profile films. Gaby was getting ready at a nearby hotel and this is where I met Gaby and her bridesmaids. I like these moments before a wedding as I can pick up the vibes and emotions from some of the key people. Everyone was very relaxed and there was a good ‘ambiance”. I then went to the venue to capture a few shots of guests arriving. During this time, I also try to capture of few shots of the groom and his family waiting for the bride to arrive. The room for the ceremony was beautiful with lovely flowers. Everyone was happy and the bride was perfectly on time and looking radiant as she entered to room with her dad. The ceremony was fairly short with a nice reading and the dog made a great unplanned appearance. After the ceremony and a bubble shot (instead of a confetti shot) guests enjoyed the outdoors space at the venue. The grounds around the venue are beautiful and it was a gorgeous summer day.

Outdoors drinks and a fun first dance

It is great when guests can spend time outside. It makes for nice pictures for me but guests also get to do different things, such as playing crocket or with arrows and targets! After the drinks, the bride and groom had chosen to have a receiving line so that they could say Hello to everyone before sitting down for a meal. The wedding breakfast was then followed by speeches. All the speeches where beautiful but I remember in particular the speech from Gaby’s friend which was very funny and touching. The speeches were then followed by some “down time” for guests before the first dance. The bride and groom had a fun first dance and I stayed for a bit after that to capture their sparkler exit before heading home.

Bridal preparations and ceremony

The venue provides with some rooms for the bride and groom and their guests. The bridal suite is very spacious and beautifully decorated. This is where I met the bride and her bridesmaids. Everyone was in great spirits, excited about the day. I enjoy this time of day. It allows me to get to know some of the bridal party and check the venue. It is really useful to get ready at the venue as everything takes place under the same roof. Logistically, it makes it very easy for everyone. The ceremony was in the main room and it was a simple yet beautiful ceremony. I could tell how much it meant to everyone. I enjoyed capturing those emotions as bride and groom see each other for the first time and are finally pronounced husband and wife. After the ceremony, the weather was a tiny bit cold so the guests stayed indoors for canapés and drinks.

The reception, wedding breakfast and first dance

The wedding reception was lovely and plenty of time had been set a side for guests to mingle. We took a few family photos and relaxed portraits during this time. I like to keep these sessions short so that the bride and groom can have a chance to mingle and greet their guests. The guests were then invited for a three course meal followed by speeches. The three speeches were fun and meaningful. They were also the right amount of time, which I find is important. Too long and guests get restless, here all the speakers had the full attention of the guests.

After the wedding speeches, we proceeded to the cutting of the cake, a sparkler exit, throwing the bouquet and then the first dance. It was a busy evening for sure but full of fun and joyous moments!

It was all quiet and relaxed when I arrived to take a few getting ready shots of Susan. There were some palpable nerves and excitement which I think it is great, it just shows how much one cares about the coming day. Everything is fairly close by at Stoke Park which makes it easy to capture the bride getting ready and guests arriving and mingling. The ceremony was beautiful and simple, with a few readings. It was lovely for them to have their son walk mum down the aisle, a beautiful moment! After the ceremony, we proceeded to do a few portraits before the evening meal. There were a few speeches planned. They were all great, personal and meaningful and kept everyone entertained. After the evening meal and speeches, there was time for dancing to a swing band. They were great and they kept everyone dancing for the evening. The bride and groom had asked me to stay after the first dance to capture some of the evening dancing. It was great fun to see everyone enjoying themselves so much!

The wedding ceremony was at their local church in Harefield. it was a special service with Christmas carols sung by a lovely choir. We then headed fairly swiftly on to Tudor Barn for the wedding reception. Tudor Barn is a charming venue and with very friendly staff. Debbie looked after everyone and it was a really well managed day. The photography was mainly candid except for a few portraits and few group photos at the church. I really love working this way as I can spend time focusing on capturing the moment, the essence, the spirit of the day. I enjoy seeing people having fun, chatting and catching up and generally having a good time. The speeches took place after a delicious three course meal and they were all fairly short but lovely and meaningful. The groom had two best men who gave emotional speeches. It was beautiful to see the strength of their friendship.

After the first  dance, there was lively Irish dancing performed by the bride and some of the guests as well as some professional dancers. It was really impressive and captivating to watch and everyone enjoyed it. I had not documented Irish dancing before, so it was a new experience for me.

Sarah and Lewis were a delight to work with. They were easy going, relaxed and full of smiles for everyone. In their profession of paramedics they care after people in difficult situations and it is obvious to see that they have those qualities and soft skills to make everyone comfortable and a natural interest and care for other people

Both Clare and Allan are down to earth, lovely and fun people to be around. They are clearly very much loved by their family and friends and everyone seemed to have a blast from the beginning until I left, shortly after the first dance. The day started with a few getting ready shots before the ceremony. The ceremony was nice and short with a couple of readings. The sun was out and it was an ideal temperature, not too warm but warm enough to be outside. After the drinks reception, we went into the dining area for speeches. The best man, at the end of his speech, provided every table with a box that contained toys and “accoutrements” that had a connection with Allan and his adventures.

Wow wow wow! We just absolutely love them Alexis! I can’t tell you how pleased we are with them. They are simply perfect. We’ve just watched the slideshow all the way through – Wow! It brought back the day absolutely perfectly! I can’t thank you enough for capturing the day the way you did. It really, really is special!

Notley Abbey Weddings are just beautiful! The beauty of Notley Abbey makes it the perfect venue in any season. Add a beautiful, lovely and caring couple like Natasha and Ben and you have an ideal wedding!

Notley Abbey is one of those venues that will look amazing in the summer and will look also cozy in autumn, when the wedding of Natasha and Ben took place. The venue is elegant and the staff are just amazing, very professional indeed.

The day started with a few getting ready shots at Notley abbey, before driving to Great Hampden where the religious ceremony took place. A beautiful service! We were able to dodge the rain that started when the newly married couple were leaving the church. It rained for a little bit during the drinks reception but it cleared afterwards. The variety of rooms at Notley Abbey is ideal, as people are able to walk around and not be contained to just one place if it rains.

After the drinks reception, the wedding breakfast was served in the barn and shortly after the three course meal, the speeches followed. I like speeches, especially when they come from the heart. The speeches were beautiful and thoughtful, with the right amount of humour and emotion. After the meal, guests were invited back into the main house for tea and coffee and to greet the evening guests. We took the opportunity also for a few night shots before the first dance.

I am very fortunate that couples understand my style and as such choose to focus on themselves and their guests and let me capture their day, mostly in a reportage way. Natasha and Ben were incredibly open, friendly, sincere, caring and we really had a good laugh in those short moments when we were taking portraits.

Holly and Dan wanted this day to be special and unique for them and great effort was done to achieve this. The day took place in Holly’s family home gardens. A lovely marquee was set up. In addition to the humanist ceremony, the day included a treasure hunt (one of their joint activities) which was fun to document and also a cake competition. It was lovely to see all the different cakes and concepts and the effort that was put into this.

It was a lovely and pleasant day, warm but not overly hot, typical of the beginning of spring. I really enjoyed capturing this lovely day for Holly and Dan and below are a few of my favourite images from the day, I hope that you like them.
