It was by chance really, that this year,I went to India. I went to experience and document  Holi in Mathura. A friend of mine, Andy from Andy Mac photography and films, posted in a Facebook group that he was going. He was asking whether anyone would fancy joining him. I am so lucky to have a kind and understanding wife. I was able to very quickly confirm my flights and organise my trip to India.

I had always dreamt of going to India and the Holi Festival seemed like a great way to experience it. We spent half a day in New Delhi and a day in Agra. However, most of out time was spent in Mathura and surroundings.

Holi, the festival of light

India lived to its expectations. It is beautiful, friendly, busy and loud. The constant beeping gets time getting used to (if at all). Everything is so different that it is a feat for the eyes and all senses. People were incredibly friendly, very curious to know where we were from. The festivals in themselves were crazy fun. After a couple of hours I felt drained, there was so much going on. I only found nice people having fun, Praying and celebrating the festival of light.  We found a festival for each of the 4 days that we were in Mathura. The events would generally last a couple of hours and we would then shoot around the town.

I will be creating other blog posts to go into more detail regarding each events and how I approached the photography. 2019 Holi Festival street photography workshop

I will be running a course in Holi nest year. Dates are 16th to 21st  March 2019. I will only be taking 5 people to make it an intimate experience. Full details will be released in the next couple of days, but please contact me directly to discuss further if you are interested in the meantime. This open to anyone wishing to experience Holi and learn or improve their street photography. Amateur or professional photographers are both welcome.

A few weeks ago I went to document the Chinese New year in London. I had originally planned to stay the whole day but I was only able to stay in London for a couple of hours. Nevertheless, having never experienced a Chinese New year celebrations, I was happy to be there for the procession and then wander for a bit in Chinatown before heading back home. It was a lovely crisp morning with rain starting to fall down at the end.

All the images are taken with my trusty Olympus EM1 and the 17mm 1.8 (34mm equivalent). I hope that you like them.
