I was very excited for the wedding for the wedding of  C & F which took place in summer in the centre of London. The bride and groom are a lovely couple with whom I chatted on a few occasions before their wedding day. Their wedding ceremony was taking place at Corpus Christi, a  recently renovated church that meant a lot to them. I was also looking forward to being their Middle Temple Hall wedding photographer for the events after the ceremony.

My coverage started at the church, which is in the middle of London, just off Covent Garden. this area is generally busy but it was the day for Pride and it was even busier and full of life. The groom and groomsmen were at the church early making sure that everything was ready. Corpus Christi looked beautiful as very shortly guests started arriving. They were all elegantly dressed and were welcome by the ushers and the groom. I love the sense of excitement that there is before a wedding! The bride and her bridesmaids arrived perfectly on time in two fabulous vintage cars. Passers-by were congratulating the bride and her family as she made her way to the church. It was beautiful to see and witness!

The wedding ceremony included a catholic mass too. Catholic weddings tend to be longer than others and this was no exception. It was beautiful with many rites and traditions that I had not see very often before. There was a lot of incense too! After the bride and groom said “I do” and the register was signed, the bride and groom walked out to be received by their guest and lots of confetti!

A wedding reception at Middle Temple Hall

The wedding reception took place in a majestic venue in London. Middle Temple Hall is a historic landmark and makes for a stunning backdrop for a wedding reception. It is also only a short ride (or walk) from the church which is also a bonus. I arrived shortly after the bride and groom but before most of their wedding guests. This allowed us to take a few photos around the venue before the bride and groom greeted their guests. It was lovely to be outdoors, it was neither warm not cold, just the right temperature! Guests enjoyed some drinks and canapés outdoors before heading inside the Hall for the speeches and wedding breakfast. The bride and groom had organised a receiving line. A receiving line is ideal for couple who want to make sure that they at least say a quick hello to every one of their guests. It did allow me also to catch some interactions between them which was lovely.

The main Hall at Middle Temple is simply stunning and the caterers and venue staff made a great job and making it look spectacular for the wedding breakfast. The bride and groom had chosen to have their speeches before the wedding meal. I have mentioned this in previous posts but I have seen this more and more often in the last few years. It is great in my opinion as it allows speakers to relax during the meal. The speeches were lovely and not too long which was ideal as guests may have been hungry by then. Grace was also sang by friend of the couple.

A great wedding in the centre of London

After the wedding meal, we took a few photos outside before proceeding o the first dance. The bride and groom did a fantastic job of it, they look naturals in the dance floor! I then stayed for a bit longer to capture a few shots of guests dancing before saying goodbye to the bride and groom.

It was a lovely day and I really enjoyed working with such a lovely couple. All my interactions with C & F had been very pleasant. They are a caring couple who made sure that I was well looked after. The friends and family were also very friendly to me which always makes it a bit more special. The bride and groom are clearly well loved by their friends and family and it was beautiful to see how close they were on the wedding day. A wedding ceremony at the Rosendale is simply beautiful. Especially on a day when the sun is shinning as was the case for the wedding of R & M. The Rosendale is very big pub in West Dulwich. It is big and airy. The first floor is reserved for wedding functions and there is also an outdoors area reserved for the drinks reception. I have documented a fair amount of weddings at the Rosendale and everything has always been great. And it as no exception for the wedding of R & M. Sue, who is in charge of weddings, does a great job at making sure everything runs to time and the bride and groom have a great experience.

My day started at the bride’s house. There was a great vibe in the morning, with people coming in and out, kids waking up from their nap and people getting ready for the wedding. It is special to get ready at home, I think that the images are meaningful and show also a little bit of daily life. I enjoyed capturing images of the grand parents looking after and playing with the bride and groom children.

A lovely afternoon in the sun

The wedding ceremony was lovely at the Rosendale. I arrived early enough to capture a few shots of the guests and the groom prior to the ceremony. Guests can have a drink at the pub before heading upstairs for the ceremony. Very nice indeed! The ceremony was special as the bride and groom’s children walked down the aisle as well as their nieces. There were some funny moments during the ceremony as well as some more motional one’s. After R & M said their “I do’s”, we all headed to the garden for the drinks reception. I love seeing people mingling and having fun. The sun was in and out but it was nice and warm outside.  We took some time to take a few family photos as well as portraits of the bride and groom before heading up for the wedding breakfast.

The wedding breakfast was preceded by the cutting of the cake and followed by some lovely and meaningful speeches. Guests were the invited to enjoy evening drinks in the adjacent room, in the bar or in the garden area. During this time, the room was seamlessly turned around for the first dance and evening party.  I was a joy to documenting the wedding of R & M, both lovely couple with beautiful children. Everyone was very friendly and I enjoyed getting to them and their families a little bit.

It was a really good day at the Rosendale, a wedding venue that I enjoy working at. I had worked before at the sister venue called Kachette. I was very pleased when I was asked to be the Shoreditch Studios wedding photographer for the wedding of E & M. It was a hot summer day and perfect for a London wedding. The bride and groom were looking for a relaxed wedding in a unique space in London. If you have not visited Shoreditch before, it is a very hip and arty area of London. My coverage started at the Hoxton Hotel just 5 minutes walk away from the venue. Both the bride and groom were getting ready at the Hotel. It was a busy morning with lots of people around. There was a good buzz and lots of energy. There was however no signs of stress, everyone was in god spirits.

After a while, the groom walked to the wedding venue to make sure that everything was ready before the ceremony. Shortly after, wedding guests started arriving and the venue started filling up. The bride arrived in a traditional black cab. The bridesmaids and bride looked fantastic and everyone was in a great mood. Some friends of the bride and groom were playing as the bride walked down the aisle which made it very personal and moving. The ceremony was lovely and it was followed by a confetti run.

Wedding breakfast at Shoreditch Studios

The drinks reception included canapés and drinks. A magician had been hired also to perform for the guests. The area near the venue has many graffitis and E & M wanted to take some portraits that would showcase them. After a short portrait session, it was then time for the wedding breakfast. After the wedding breakfast followed some speeches and then the first dance. Everything flowed in a nice way and the environment chosen by the bride and groom, alongside with the great work provided by the venue and caterers meant that everyone was chilled and had a great time!

The bride and groom, as their guests. were incredibly friendly and easy going and a joy to work with. I was looking forward to the wedding of N and C in London. It was a  real winter wedding, one of the last one’s for me this year. I was very excited to the Crypt wedding photographer a beautiful venue in Ely Place. The wedding started at the bride and groom’s apartment where the bride and her family were getting ready. It was the sort of wedding I really enjoy documenting. Everyone was welcoming and relaxed and they carried on enjoying their day without worrying too much about me. This allows me to capture the natural moments that I am after! After a short while, we headed for Islington Town Hall were the wedding ceremony would take place.

I have worked at Islington Town Hall on a few occasions before. It is a lovely registry, full of history. It has a variety of rooms to suit the size of the wedding party. I enjoy seeing guests arriving and then waiting patiently for the bride to arrive. Everything run to time and to plan and the service was short but lovely. After the ceremony, guests waited outside for a confetti throw. Being November and fairly late, there was very little light available but it made for some magical pictures. Guests were transported in green route master to the drinks reception.

Drinks reception at Ye Olde Mitre and wedding breakfast at the Crypt

The drinks reception took place at Ye ld Mitre, a Pub from the 16th Century that opened exclusively for the wedding, as it is normally closed on Saturdays. A beautiful place, full of character and history. Guests were welcomed to champagne and a selection of drinks and ales from the bar. The place looked beautiful and it is an amazing and inspiring venue, certainly great for the wedding! It was nice to see people mingling in the tight spaces – the pub is fairly small but makes it cosy and interesting. After a while, guests were invited to walks 200 yard to the Crypt for the wedding breakfast.

The Crypt of St Etheldreda’s is also an historical place and it looked fantastic. Everything had been decorated beautifully and it had a nice wintery feeling, almost christmassy! Guests enjoyed another drink here before sitting down for a gorgeous three course meal. The meal was accompanied by live piano music which added to the magical feeling of the evening. The bride and groom did not want many traditional aspects at their wedding and there were minimum portraits and group photos. Speeches were also short (only two of them). However, there was a lovely surprise song by the groom that was beautiful and funny at the same time! The bride and groom also opted for not having a first dance, so after the meal, the music started and guests who chose you joined in on the dance floor.

A beautiful London weddding

It was a lovely wedding with a lovely couple. They were keen on having a day that was relaxed and surrounded by their close family and friends. Clissold House is a gorgeous wedding venue. It is situated in Clissold Park, in the centre of Stoke Newington. In fact, it is only a few yards away from  the Stoke Newington Town Hall. This was the venue chosen by A & P for their wedding day. I arrived early for the getting ready preparation of A. The bride was getting ready at The Town Hall Hotel and Apartments in Bethnal Green, another lovely venue. As I arrived, the bride was getting ready with her sister and the make up artist who was also a friend. It was very nice and relaxed environment. I enjoy the morning preparations as it gives me some time to get to know the bridal party. After some time, I left for the Town Hall were P and his friends would be waiting for the bride to arrive. The bride was driven by her sister in a 1930s car that had been in the family for a while. It was the car used for the wedding of A’s parents and also the car that collected A from the hospital the day that she was born.

The bride arrived with plenty of time. She was escorted to a private room to meet with her groom and have an interview with the registrars. It is uncommon for the bride and groom to meet prior to the ceremony these days. However, it was a beautiful moment and they were able to have 5 minutes to themselves before the beginning of the ceremony. The ceremony was lovely, with a couple of readings. After the said “I do”, guests were ushered outside for a confetti shoot. The bride and groom then walked their guests a few hundred yards to Clissold House for the drinks reception.

An afternoon reception at an 18th century mansion

On arrival to the venue, we opted to do the family photos and portraits then before heading up for some well deserved canapés and drinks. The mood was great with everyone having fun and enjoying themselves. The venue looked great, with most of the activities taking place on the first floor. After an hour or so, the guests were invited to the wedding breakfast. The room looked great. It had been nicely decorated and there was some beautiful light coming through the windows. After the meal there were some speeches. It was nice to see the bride and groom do their speech together, it was very touching and fitting. After the meal was over, there was some time for the guests to unwind and we took the opportunity to take a few portraits around the venue. The bride and groom had chosen not to have a first dance. There was a DJ and a room allocated for dancing but most guests seemed to be happy to carry on socialising and chatting.

I was a really lovely wedding, full of moments and emotion. Both the bride and groom looked so happy to be together and it was was great for me to witness and document their wedding day! I have been known as a relaxed London wedding photographer for some time now. I love documenting weddings that are easy going and that flow nicely. Weddings where couples are interested in spending time with their family and friends. It is about capturing wedding in a relaxed and unobtrusive way.  I look at being discreet and engaging with people so they also feel relaxed when being photographed. This is the way that I have been working nor for many years. It means that both my couples and I enjoy the wedding day.

The wedding of S & T started at S’s home where she was getting ready with her friends and family. There was a lot of excitement. However, the most excited of them all seemed to be dad. A fan of buses, he was waiting for the red Routemaster that had been commissioned to take us all to the church and then from the church to Ruskin House. Everyone was excited about the bus, but it did add an extra sparkle to dad’s eye for sure! The journey to the church only took about 10 minutes and we got there bang on time. I had a few minutes to get acquainted with the church before the bride made her entrance with mum and dad. I found it beautiful that both mum and dad walked the bride down the aisle.

It was a busy ceremony with lots of guests and children. After the ceremony, guests were invited for cake and coffee in the church hall. This was the church were S had worshipped and spent a lot of time in her youth so it was very special to them to have some time there. After a bit it was time to move to the venue for the rest of the celebrations

A wedding at Ruskin House

I had not documented a wedding at Ruskin House before. The venue is situated in Croydon. It has a large garden that was used by all adult guests and enjoyed even more by the children. Plenty of spots to play and run around. The weather was lovely so people were enjoying canapés and drinks outside. There was a fete party ambiance, a very “chilled” afternoon. After a bit it was time for the second round of speeches (a couple of speeches took place during cake and coffee). The speeches were also done outside which was great and added to the informal and relaxed vibe of the day. After that, it was time to eat, barbecue style. It was a lovely meal and it was all very informal, guests choosing were to seat, whether indoors or outdoors.

After the meal, it was the n time for the evening dancing. The bride and groom had chosen a ceilidh. I think that ceilidhs are great (albeit energetic) as it gets people involved and it is different. I cover a few minutes of the ceilidh before heading home.

It was a lovely wedding. Everyone was very welcoming and I genuinely enjoyed document their wedding day. Below are some of my favourite images, I really hope that like them! It was looking forward to the wedding of M & A. Their ceremony was taking place at Merton Register office (or Merton) followed by a reception at Metro Garden. I was very much looking forward to being the Metro Garden wedding photographer for their day. I had the opportunity to chat to them before the wedding, and they were looking forward to a relaxed day with their family and friends. They are a very happy couple and I knew that I would have a great day!

My wedding coverage started at a flat that they had rented for the bride and friends and family to get ready. It was a lovely morning, the sun was out and there were many people around when I arrived. It was a lovely pen space and the make up artist was busy at work with the bride and then with two bridesmaids. After everyone was ready, we all headed to Merton Park. We arrived fairly early, with plenty of time t capture images of guests arriving and being greeted by the groom. The ceremony took place outdoors, one of the options offered by the Merton Registry office. It was a little bit hot but the sun added to the experience. It was more than bearable and everyone seem to be enjoying being outdoors. The bride and bridesmaids made their entrance and the ceremony was beautiful. It was simple, relaxed and very much in the style that the bride and groom were looking for.

A route master ride to Metro Garden

After the first kiss, we took a few family photos in the grounds. A confetti run took place and then guests were invited onto a route master. Drinks were being handed out as guests were boarding. The bus journey added a lovely touch to the day as guests were bale to relax and not worry about driving. Guest had fun on the bus, enjoying drinks and chatting together. There is always a good vibe on route master rides and this one was no exception.

It was nice to see passers-by and store owners congratulate the bride and groom on arrival at Metro Garden, as they walked from the bus to the restaurant. The venue is nice and welcoming, with a nice garden at the back, as the name indicates. It is a bit of peace and quiet in what is a busy high street in London. The bride and groom had organised for a nice and relaxed afternoon for their guests with not too many things planned. The guests enjoyed their drinks and canapes before heading into the main area of the restaurant for the wedding breakfast. There were speeches in between courses too. I left at the end of the meal as the bride and groom had decided not to have a first dance. A duo band started playing music shortly before I left.

It was a lovely day and I certainly enjoyed documenting the wedding day of M & A. They are a lovely couple, friendly, caring and I was very well looked after by them and their guests. I was very much looking forward to the wedding of Georgina and Ian. It was going to be a lovely summer wedding at the Rosendale, a gorgeous wedding venue in London. I have worked a few times already at the Rosendale. It is a lovely environment and venue. The food is great! The weather was nice and warm with sunshine throughout the day. It was the beginning of the heatwave. My day started with Georgina and her friends getting ready. The bride had hired a house for everyone to get ready at. It was busy with people coming in and out and getting ready in different parts of the house. It was full of life and everyone was in great spirits! The morning preparations allow me to meet some of the main guests at a wedding and form a relationship early on. Everyone was friendly and very easy to talk to.

I left after a while to the church that was nearby. Ian was waiting, welcoming guests as they arrived. He also looked calm and relaxed. The church was beautiful and the bride and bridesmaids were early which is very rare at weddings! It is fair to say that Georgina was well organised and she wanted to make sure that she wasn’t late. The service was beautiful. The priest was friendly and the readings were meaningful. It all made for a beautiful ceremony. After the ceremony, the bride and the groom greeted their guests before some of them left for the venue whilst close family stayed behind for family photos and a few portraits of the bride and groom.

A relaxed wedding reception at the Rosendale

The Rosendale is a favourite wedding venue for couples who look for a beautiful yet informal setting for their wedding day. The venue has an outside area which is great in summer for the drinks reception. The guests enjoyed champagne and canapés before going upstairs for speeches and then the wedding breakfast.  It was a lovely reception and the speeches were lovely too. You could tell how much love there was for the bride and groom. The speeches were funny and meaningful. After the speeches, it was then time for the wedding breakfast.

After the meal, there was some time for guests to unwind a bit. Some choose to stay in the bar area were a duet were playing music, whilst some went outside. Then came the first dance which was great fun as the bride and groom danced and clearly had lots of fun with each other. I left shortly after the first dance.

I enjoy looking back every year on my work. I want to enjoy what I produced but also take some lessons to improve for the following year.  Some photographers do a “Best of”. The images below are not necessarily the best images I took,  but they represent the direction I was working on in 2017. I am always learning and I attended a fantastic workshop in January 2017 in Texas. The Foundation workshop. It is a workshop aiming at improving your photo journalistic style. It also aims at making you understand the way that you shoot and how you you can improve. It is a photographic teaching session but also a life experience. I loved my time there and I learnt lots. I met fantastic people and made new friends. The teachings are not always implemented straight away, they take time to mature.

In 2017, I also worked with a mentor, Daniel Aguilar, who helped me implement and reflect on the teaching from Foundation. Being a photographer is such a lonely profession at times and having someone that provides you with advice, critique and encouragement can also help a lot. I have certainly enjoyed the sessions and they have helped me to slowly keep improving in some areas.

The images below are only a summary of these learnings. I have tried to included a bit of my street photography in my work, pushing the documentary side on my photography while providing some considered portraits to the bride and grooms that work with me.

2017 was a very busy year with around 45 weddings and the images below only represent a small fraction of what I did. I really hope that you enjoy the set below and I would  love to hear from you!

The wedding of Sarah and Oli took place at Kew Gardens and then went on to the Dysart in Petersham. I was looking forward to being the Dysart wedding photographer as I had never worked there before.  I had chatted with Sarah and Oli before the wedding. They were both easy going and friendly and were very excited about their wedding day. It was very family orientated. Both brothers of the groom were best men and both sisters of the bride were bridesmaids. I really like it when brothers and sisters are best friends! It is my wish for my two little boys, to be good friends too when they are older! You could see the strong family love within both families. I have always said that wedding are a family affair, and this wedding certainly was!

I started at the Coach and Horse Hotel just around the corner from Kew Gardens. I arrived in time to get a few shots of the boys as they were leaving to the venue. I then took a few shots of the bride and her family getting ready. It was beautiful. Everyone was in great spirits there were children around and it all felt relaxed. I then headed to the venue while the bride finished her preparations and went on to meet the registrar prior to the ceremony. The same joyful spirit could be felt at the venue were the groom and ushers were greeting the guests. The groom managed to loose his balance and scratch his hand, the one where the wedding ring went on! Whilst it was far from ideal, I like these unplanned things that happen on a wedding day. They will be remembered in the future.

The ceremony was beautiful and the sunshine greeted the bride and groom as they left the Nash conservatory. We took a few family photos before departing for the Dysart.

A stop at Richmond Park and the reception at the Dysart

The bride and groom wanted to do a few portraits that Richmond Park, a spot that was meaningful to them. The day was warm and there was some sun out, so it made for a lovely moment and for some nice photos. When we arrived to the Dysart, the guests had lined up for a confetti throw. The guests then enjoyed drinks and canapés before being called for the first set of speeches. The it was time for a lovely meal. The day had a really calm a slow pace to it. As I mentioned before, there was a great family feeling. All the family were sat together and the real friendship and love was clear to see. The mum of the bride was smiling all the time, the bride was constantly kissing the newborn baby, the mother of the groom was excited about this being the second wedding of three of his sons, all falling within a year! Many many stories that I was grateful to witness. After the meal, there was a second set of speeches before the first dance. I left shortly after this.
