Houghton Lodge weddings are simply beautiful. The Houghton Lodge wedding experience is fantastic. From the beautiful setting, to the historic house it all leads to a fabulous setting for the wedding day. N & W were very excited for their wedding day. They had chosen a venue that they loved and they were looking for a relaxed day of fun with family and friends.

The day started with a little bit of rain that  had N worried but it cleared very quickly and had totally stopped by the time that the bride made it to the ceremony. The morning was peaceful, busy with the bride getting ready with bridesmaids and family members. Everyone was very happy and the excitement was palpable. The venue has cottages on-site where the bride and groom and families can get ready and spend the night before or after the wedding. It is a lovely set up with everything in one place.

The wedding ceremony took place in the main house, which is the residence of the owners of the venue. It is a great place and it look great. The ceremony was a civil one. It was beautiful and included two readings. After the ceremony and a confetti run, guests were invited to the walled gardens for the drinks reception

An afternoon in the sunshine in Hampshire

By the time the bride and groom and guests were enjoying their prosecco (and beers and other lovely drinks), the skies had partially cleared letting the sun in. The bride was delighted and added to the magic of the day. It was a relaxed afternoon with guests mingling and enjoying the gardens. We had a some time to take family photos too before everyone headed down the hill to the marquee for the wedding breakfast and reception.

The marquee is by the river and it is a beautiful setting with the house still visible in the distance. The speeches preceded the meal. It is something that I am seeing more and more often at weddings which is great as the speakers can then relax during the wedding breakfast. The speeches were all fun and meaningful. The bride did a speech at the beginning also which is great, this is another trend that I am seeing more of and long may it continue.

An evening of dancing and fun

The speeches were followed by the wedding breakfast. After the meal, we went to take a few portraits around the wedding venue before the bride and groom returning to the marquee for their first dance. It was a beautiful moment with guests joining in at the end. The bride and groom asked me to say for the evening celebrations and it was great fun to see everyone dancing to the music of the live band. A few guests stayed outside instead enjoyed the last rays of sunlight and chilling by the river. It was a really good wedding!

This wedding is the sort of wedding that I really love to document. A lovely couple, fun to be with and clearly very much in love with each other. The guests and their families made me feel very welcome and I really had a great day with them, it was a lovely experience and day for me. I was very excited to work at the wedding of Millie and James. It was my first Tipi wedding this season and the first of two in two consecutive weekends! I enjoy the variety that weddings bring. A Tipi wedding usually brings a relaxed atmosphere. It is fun and different inside the Tipi! My day started at Millie’s mum’s house. Millie, her bridesmaids and mum where getting ready when I arrived. Everyone was friendly, calm and having a good time! I knew from this moment that it was going to be a good day! The bride and here “entourage” were easy to talk to and they carried doing what they were doing. I like the getting ready time as there are many emotions. From being happy, to being nervous or emotional. I stayed for about an hour before heading to the church for the wedding ceremony.

The wedding ceremony took place at St. John’s in Boldre. A beautiful church and with a charming vicar! He was very friendly and happy for me to photograph without many restrictions. I always aim to be as discrete as possible and balancing the need to capture great images without intruding. The groom seemed in good spirits, perhaps a tad nervous. The ceremony was lovely and I witnessed one of the biggest applauses and roars from the friend of Millie and James as they walked back down the aisle. There was the visit from their family dog outside the church and some confetti before heading for the drinks ceremony.

A Tipi at a private residence

The Tipi (or is it Tee-Pee) was erected at a friends family house. What an amazing gesture from the friends to let them host the wedding at their home. The garden was beautiful and you could make out the Isle of Wight from the rooftop. Millie and James friends were ready to party and the afternoon was spent with guests enjoying of course canapés and drinks  but also having fun. Speeches took place before the wedding meal. There was a surprise singing waiter (he was actually playing the part of the sound engineer) who did a great job to get everyone up and dancing during the meal. It was really fun and a great break from tradition. After the meal, there was also some time for relaxing before the evening reception and party. And it really was a great party as you can see from the images! Everyone was up for dancing and those who did not want to dance as much, enjoyed marshmallows outside!

I really enjoyed this wedding and Millie and James were great to work with. Two genuine people and clearly very much loved by their friends and family! It was a great sunny day for the wedding of Elissa and Darren. After talking to them on the phone and Skype on a couple of occasions, I knew they would have a great wedding. They came across as a friendly, approachable and fun couple. I arrived in the morning to capture a few shots of the bride getting ready. I then drove to St Mary’s Church in Bishopstoke for the wedding ceremony. The vicar was very friendly and relaxed. It really makes a difference when this happens. I was allowed to document the ceremony freely. I am always discreet and mindful but I also think that it is a important to capture a few images for the bride and groom and their families. The ceremony was beautiful and meaningful. The sun was out as the bride and groom left the church. The bride and groom decided to have a few family photos at the church before heading to the venue. This proved to work well and the formal shots were done quickly and smoothly.

The venue is a mere 10 minutes drive away from the church. As we arrived back to Botley Park, the guests were already enjoying the grounds of the venue. Everyone was happy and seemingly having a great time. Everything looks, feels and tastes better in the sun and it was a very fun afternoon. Guests were then called for the wedding breakfast.

A fun filled afternoon and evening

The wedding breakfast was served mid afternoon. The venue is spacious and has the ability of offering different configurations depending on the size of the wedding. The wedding breakfast was followed by speeches. Each speech that I document is different for sure. Each father of the bride or groom has their own style and this is what makes speeches very interesting. The best men had put together a hilarious slideshow to the amusement of everyone.  It was fun and cheeky but nicely done! After the speeches we took a few moment to grab a few portraits in the fading light. It was the time for the first dance. It was an emotional moment for the bride and groom and I enjoyed capturing some of these meaningful moments! The bride and groom had requested that I stayed a bit later to capture some of the evening party which I was very happy to do.

It was  a sunny and warm day for the wedding of Becky and Simon. It was a great day for being the Oakley Hall wedding photographer. I arrived early to document the morning preparations. Becky and her family got ready upstairs. I was also able to capture a few shots as he arrived to the venue. Everyone was in good spirits and they had allowed plenty of time. No one was rushed and everything took place at Oakley Hall. There was no need to worry about traffic and going from one place to another. The ceremony was simple and beautiful. It included two readings from family members. At the end of the ceremony, guests gathered outdoors for drinks and canapés. It was a beautiful sunny summer day! I really enjoy the drinks reception as I am able to mixing and capture some natural and unposed moments. A short while later, it was time for guests to go back inside for the wedding meal.

The wedding breakfast, speeches and dancing!

The couple has decide to have 2 speeches before the meal and one after the meal. It is a nice idea as it breaks them up a bit. It also allows those who may not be as comfortable speaking in public, to enjoy their meals. it worked very well for Becky and Simon. The speeches were fun and from the heart. Guests were entertained! The meal was lovely and it was an opportunity for everyone to enjoy each others company. After the meal, there was some free time for the guests outside before the first dance. As the sun was setting, it was a great time for me to take a few portraits of the bride and groom. After this, everyone was called back inside for the first dance.

It was a lovely day to spend with Becky and Simon and their families. Everyone made me feel very welcome and it was a great day all around. Everything run to time and the weather was glorious! I had been looking forward to Fiona and Richard’s wedding for a while! My communications with them showed that they were a lovely, relaxed and fun couple! I was looking forward also to being the East Horton wedding photographer for the day. We were really lucky with the weather, it was sunny and hot. My day started with capturing a few images at Fiona’s parents house. The house was busy when I arrived, full of people and noise… just how I like it! Everyone was relaxed and having a good time. I could sense the anticipation building as we were getting closer to the time of the ceremony. The ceremony took place at St. Peter’s RC Church in Winchester. The priest was lovely and friendly and did a lovely ceremony for the bride and groom. The setting was impressive, a very spacious church that had been decorated with beautiful flowers. After the ceremony and a confetti run, guests made their way to East Horton, a beautiful wedding venue and golf club.

A lovely afternoon in the sun

The bride and groom arrived early at the venue, and we headed for a few portraits as their guests were arriving. I enjoy taking a few portraits in a relaxed setting, with minimal posing. The afternoon was then spent outdoors, guests enjoying canapés and drinks. We then headed upstairs for the wedding meal and speeches. The speeches were well prepared and meaningful. Having heard many speeches in my time, I can tell when some sections have been “borrowed” from the internet and some are unique. The speakers had made an effort to write and talk about stories that were important and relevant to the bride and groom. I certainly enjoy listening and getting to now my couples a bit better via the speeches. The evening then carried on with some dancing and a sparkler send off.

It was a privilege to be the Houghton Lodge wedding photographer for Catherine and Luke, a really lovely and genuine couple. I really enjoyed capturing their wedding day as it was very relaxed with lots of fun and laughter! My day started at Catherine’s family home were I took a few getting ready shots before heading to the church for the wedding ceremony. It was a windy day and it rained a bit later on but not too much. The service at the church was lovely. I always find it magical when the time comes, after all the preparations, for the bride and groom to finally get married. The ceremony was also special as one of Catherine’s sisters sang beautifully during the signing of the register. Their friends also said prayers for them. I love it when friends and family get involved  and make it personal. At the end of the ceremony it started to rain so we headed straight for the venue.

Houghton Lodge is beautiful and it has two main areas. The main house where we had the drinks reception and then a very short walk away and area where a tipi was erected, near to the river. It was a beautiful environment for friends to chat and play and for the children to amuse themselves. After the meal, it was time for the speeches. They were funny, the father of the bride and the best man competing for the most traditional wedding joke used during the speeches. It was actually quite funny and the speeches were the right length, not too long.

A party to remember

After the the meal, guests gathered outside and had time for drinks and a chat and I took Catherine and Luke for a few portraits before coming back into the tipi for the first dance. Catherine and Luke had asked me to stay a bit later and cover some of the evening dancing. It was really great to see the dance floor full early on and friends and family having a great time! I was able to capture some nice and fun photos which I am sure that the bride and groom are going to treasure for years to come.

On the wedding day, the celebrations started with guests gathering for a few drinks and nibbles before the ceremony. It took place outdoors by a lovely lake with guests sitting on hay bales. It was a lovely humanist ceremony, in a gorgeous spot with great weather! The weather in fact was variable throughout the day with some showers. After the ceremony and the drinks reception, guests were invited for afternoon tea. The whole day was very relaxed and there were no speeches and very few “traditional” elements. The day was about having fun and enjoying each other’s company and the lovely grounds. Some afternoon games took place which included croquet, jenga, a treasure hunt, bowls and roulette. In the evening, the first dance took place just before sunset.

Sarah and Jonathan’s wedding was really beautiful and focused on those special moments that were important to them. I was amazed by how calm and patient they both were, considering that in addition to getting married they organised everything for everyone. They made sure that everyone had plenty to eat the night before (they cooked themselves lasagna (both meat and vegetarian)) and they were both running around on the day of the wedding ensuring everyone had breakfast and had everything they needed. I felt incredibly happy to witness such a meaningful day.

The wedding ceremony took place at St. Peter’s Church. It is their family church and it was lovely to see so many people come for their wedding day. The service was beautiful and relaxed, with some nice readings from both mums. The singing was also beautiful from the choir.   After the service, it was a short drive to Langrish House, a beautiful listed Hotel in the Hampshire countryside with beautiful views. The afternoon drinks took place on the lawn. The sun was out and it was warm but not terribly hot, which is ideal. I enjoy the drinks reception and observing people mingling, old friends being re-united,new friends being made and families getting to know each other.

After the meal, some lovely speeches took place before the guests having some time to wander about before the evening party got started. The first dance was a lot of fun, with guest cheering and being entertained by Lizzie and Frank. Frank is a true gentleman and Lizzie looked fantastic on the day. They were both great to be with, very friendly and considerate.

The day had a relaxed feel to it with everything happening at the venue. I spent a some time with the girls as they were getting ready before heading out to take a few shots of the guests arriving. Big smiles and big hugs were on the agenda of the day and everyone looked incredibly happy. It was clear to see how much Rachael and Lewis meant to everyone who came.

After a lovely and short ceremony, we headed outside for the drinks reception and a few portraits before the wedding breakfast. Speeches took place before the food was served, which is quite nice so that the speakers can then relax and enjoy a drink during the meal!

A few hours later, it was time for the first dance and some evening partying. We also took a couple of frames as the sun was setting before I left for the day. I will remember the warmth of everyone at this wedding. Everyone was very friendly and I had a great time capturing these wedding images for Rachael and Lewis.

Ellen and Richard looked fantastic on the day and they were very kind and considerate towards everyone. Their wedding was relaxed and beautiful as they had planned it. Rivervale Barn offers a variety of rooms and areas that make the day very special. From the beautiful room in which the bride and bridesmaids get ready, to the ceremony room and gardens, Rivervale Barn is a great backdrop for any wedding!

The ceremony was emotional, in particular as bride and groom saw each other for the first time and during the reading from Ellen’s sister. The drinks reception took part outside, in the gardens. The sun was out and it was pleasantly warm, just the right temperature. After the meal, a few speeches took place before some downtime before the first dance.

I am incredibly lucky with the couples that I work with. They are relaxed and caring and are looking for great photography whilst aiming to spend as much time as possible with friends and family. And this is the way that I like to work and this is exactly what Ellen and Richard were looking for. I am fortunate to have met them and honoured to have been able to capture memories from their wedding day. And I will be seeing all of them next year for another wedding, which I am already looking forward to documenting!
